Regional Tourism & Community Liaison

Joint Appointment: Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce & Destination Marketing Corporation (DMC)

  • Destination Marketing Corporation is the official tourism promotion agency for Otsego & Schoharie Counties, helping bring visitors to our communities. 
  • The Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce is a membership-based organization that helps develop, promote and support the greater Cooperstown community. 

Position Overview

Together, we seek a versatile, community-minded professional to fill a unique hybrid role that serves as the primary link between regional tourism strategy and local business support. This individual will split their day between the two organizations, providing administrative, marketing, and operational support to both the Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce and the Destination Marketing Corporation (DMC).

We’re looking for someone friendly, organized, and who can keep everything running smoothly in both offices. While the roles are distinct, they are highly complementary, offering a 360-degree view of the local economy.

The Schedule & Structure

This is a 40-hour-per-week commitment composed of two separate part-time positions. The selected candidate will be employed by both organizations and receive two separate paychecks.

  • 8:30 AM – 2:00 PM: Office Coordinator, Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce.

    • Location: In-office at 31 Chestnut Street, Cooperstown, NY

  • 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM: Tourism Administrative Assistant, Destination Marketing Corporation

    • Location: In-office at 20 Chestnut Street, Cooperstown, NY

Role 1: Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce (Mornings)

Focus: Member Services, Local Operations, and Community Engagement

Reporting to the Board of Directors, you will manage the Chamber's daily heartbeat, serving as the first point of contact for local businesses and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Office & Finance: Manage daily mail, phone inquiries, and walk-in visitors. Assist with financial tasks, including scanning invoices, processing membership dues, and tracking office expenses.

  • Membership Management: Recruit new members, manage renewals through MembershipWorks, and distribute membership decals and welcome packets.

  • Marketing & Communication: Maintain Chamber social media accounts, create the "Coop Connections" e-newsletter, and update the website event calendar.

  • Event Coordination: Support major community initiatives such as the Cooperstown Artisan Festival, the Community Yard Sale, and the annual "Scoop It Up" Auction fundraiser.

  • Board Support: Prepare agendas for monthly board meetings, take minutes, and assist committees with projects.

Role 2: Destination Marketing Corporation (Afternoons)

Focus: Regional Tourism Support, Data Integrity, and Visitor Fulfillment

Reporting to the President & CEO, you will act as the "human version of Google" for regional tourism, helping visitors navigate Otsego and Schoharie Counties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data & Website Upkeep

    • Keep our tourism databases current and accurate
    • Approve event submissions and update our online calendars
    • Make sure local business info on our website info stays fresh and correct (no cobwebs allowed)
       
  • Helping Visitors & Locals

    • Answer calls and emails, very often acting as the human version of Google for This is Cooperstown (Otsego County) & Upstate Vacations (Schoharie County)
    • Send out visitor guides and other helpful info
    • Help promote and support community events
       
  • Supporting the Team

    • Prepare meeting materials, track board terms, and take minutes at bi-monthly meetings
    • Assist with business outreach and community updates
    • Handle general office tasks like filing, recycling, and inventory

What We’re Looking For

  • Technical Proficiency: Comfortable with Microsoft 365, Google Suite, MailChimp, and social media platforms (Facebook/Instagram). Willingness to learn new systems.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent writing and verbal skills are essential, as you will represent both organizations to the public and professional boards.
  • Organizational Prowess: Ability to manage high-volume inboxes, spreadsheets, and deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Experience: A background in administrative support, customer service, or a professional office environment is desired.
  • Reliability: A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.

Compensation:

Both are hourly part-time positions with an average rate of pay of $19.50.
