Biking & Cycling in Cooperstown

Best Biking in New York State

Otsego County is a biking enthusiast's dream location for both road cycling and mountain biking.

For proof that cycling is big here, pedal over to The Inn at Cooperstown, where innkeepers Marc and Sherrie Kingsley created the Big Ring Bicycle Clubhouse. Inside, guests can grab a beer from the fridge, play a cycling film on the flat screen TV, and wrench on bikes before they start pedaling.  Woodland Cycles offers full suspension mountain bike rental perfect for exploring beginner to expert singletrack in the Oneonta area.

Country roads unfurl along river valleys and climb central New York foothills for pastoral views—just ask the Kingsley's for route suggestions, or see the maps below.

 Annual Biking Events

Join the local bike community for annual events. Race season kicks off with the Check Your Legs Road Race hosted by the Central New York Cycling Club each April in Garrettsville. In early summer, enjoy the Cooperstown Triathlon as a participant or spectator. Fall brings cyclists to Brewery Ommegang for the Drops-to-Hops ride. And don't think the fun stops there because, in February, the Clark Sports Center hosts the Fatty Bumpo Fat Tire Race, where competitors pedal fat tire bikes on a technical, snow-covered course.

So grab your bike of choice and get riding, because, as the Kingsley's well know, every visit to Cooperstown or Otsego County should include a cruise on two wheels. Look below for a list of the great biking locations in the area.
