Cooperstown and Oneonta Are Going All In on America's 250th

Four days. Three towns. Unlimited Patriotism.

July 4, 2026 is America's 250th birthday. July 2–5 is Cooperstown and Oneonta's chance to make sure the whole region marks it. There are parades, fireworks, concerts, and celebrations across four days — organized by CANO, Oneonta 250, and The Fenimore Farm, among others. Some of it has been building for months. All of it is worth showing up for.

Thursday, July 2 — First Thursdays Downtown Oneonta

The Semiquincentennial kicks off with First Thursdays Downtown Oneonta on July 2 — a monthly street celebration that has a very good excuse to go bigger this month. Expect live music, local vendors, and the kind of downtown energy that reminds you why Oneonta shows up for itself. America's 250th gives First Thursdays an occasion it's been waiting a long time for.

Friday, July 3 — Swart-Wilcox

On July 3, the Swart-Wilcox House in hosts its America 250 celebration. One of Otsego County's best-preserved early American homes — built in the late 1700s — has earned the occasion. The 250th is not a backdrop here. It's the point. From 3-7 enjoy the plaque dedication, a Vintage Baseball Game at 5 (right up OUR alley) and enjoy some famous Brooks BBQ.

Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4 — The Fourth in Cooperstown, Springfield, and Oneonta

This is the main event. Cooperstown's Independence Day celebration is a legitimate institution — the kind your kid will remember for twenty years, and you'll be surprised how much you wanted to come back. 

This year the celebration takes place on Friday, July 3. Cooperstown's Lakefront Park becomes the greatest stadium in America — no tickets required. Cooperstown Village Historian Will Walker will offer a Revolutionary History Table at 5 pm and the Cooperstown Community Band takes the field from 6–8 p.m. for Concert Band Classics, Steel Rail closes out with Classic Rock from 8–9:30 p.m., and Otsego Lake handles the fireworks finale (sponsored by the Cooperstown Fire Department, of course). Food trucks, face painting, ice cream, and enough red, white, and blue to make Abner Doubleday weep. Walk-off Fourth of July energy, one day early.

Springfield runs its own parade, 112 years strong, a cherished tradition that holds the title of one of the oldest in New York State and in the US to boot. This massive parade kicks off at 11 AM in Springfield Center and with thousands of attendees each year, you’ll want to stake out your spot early to catch all the action. Later, Glimmerglass State Park is absolutely the best place in the county to see fireworks.  If you're anywhere near the north end of the lake on the evening of July 4, plan accordingly.

Now Oneonta has a celebration too, don't forget. A parade on Main Street at Noon, a festival in Neahwa Park with live music, performances, food trucks, vendors, games and bounce houses from 3-10:30pm. And of course, Fireworks at dark that put the whole region on notice - it's time to celebrate, City of the Hills Style.

The Fenimore Farm

The Fenimore Farm is one of the legendary forces behind the Fourth of July and especially the Semiquincentennial celebrations in this area, and a property worth knowing regardless of the occasion. Operating at the intersection of history, agriculture, and Otsego County life, the Fenimore Farm brings a grounded, place-specific energy to the 250th — the kind that doesn't need a press release to feel real.

Sunday, July 5 — Encore at Huntington Memorial Library

The weekend doesn't close on the 4th. On Sunday, July 5 from 1-5pm, Huntington Memorial Library hosts an encore event at Huntington Park  — one more day of celebration, at one of Oneonta's most beautiful parks. Huntington Memorial Library has been part of this community for well over a century. Sunday gives the Semiquincentennial the finale it deserves with Live Music, Vendor booths (including food and bev), an Historic Scavenger Hunt, crafts and demonstrations.
