English Tudor and Romanesque are the architectural styles that are prominent in this small village, located in the beautiful Butternut Valley and a short drive from Unadilla, NY. Settled by Abijah Gilbert in 1787, the entire village is on the National Historic Register.

The Major's Inn, a medieval English Tudor and Gothic Building, is a cultural center that is open seasonally and often hosts special events. The village has become an artist enclave, with several studios and specialty shops, including the Gilbert Block Quilt Shop – a must-visit for quilters.

The Wagner State Forest offers more than 450 acres of birding and hiking trails.
