COOPERSTOWN, NY - Have you ever been on a big road trip? My brother and I are driving through New York with our mom looking for the only place in the state where all of New York's notable animals can be found together. Our dad says some of the animals are wild, some live on farms, but all of them have lived in our state and have had an impact on its history. He gave us this list of clues, some blank notebooks and maps. We're starting on Long Island and working our way up to Niagara Falls to see if we can find them. Come join the quest!  - Lulu and Max

Inspired by the Empire State Carousel at The Farmers' Museum, Wild Times! A New York State Animal Vacation showcases some of the animals on the Carousel, and explores their natural history, mythology, social history, art history and use in pop culture.
 
The exhibition follows the geography of New York State, from Long Island to Western New York. The Long Island section includes the bay scallop and Peking duck, which formed the basis of important downstate industries. The Downstate area addresses how grey squirrels and raccoons have adapted to thrive in a people-created environment. The Catskills' brook trout and black bears represent the balance of nature and tourism. The Leatherstocking Region features horses and their use in farming and racing, as well as Holstein cows and the thriving agricultural industries of the region. The Adirondacks highlight the Beaver and Loon and address nature-tourism. Finally, Western New York considers the mule, which is the representative animal of the New York canal system.
