The Glimmerglass Festival Holds Chorus Auditions April 2

March 21, 2011 - Auditions for Carmen and Medea to be held April 2 in Cooperstown

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. - The Glimmerglass Festival will hold auditions for chorus members for the company's 2011 summer productions of Carmen and Medea on April 2.

Auditions will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. by appointment at Grace Episcopal Church on Montgomery Street in Cherry Valley. Those auditioning will be considered for the 2011 Festival and future seasons. Applicants should prepare one aria or art song; an accompanist will be provided. Choristers must be available from approximately May 21 through August 23. Contact Eric Schnobrick at eschnobrick@glimmerglass.org with questions or to schedule an appointment.

Carmen, directed by Anne Bogart and conducted by David Angus, will be sung in French, and 15 performances will run between July 2 and August 23. The dramatic opera is about a gypsy woman who heeds no law but her own and is caught between a corporal and a toreador in a fiery love triangle. Ginger Costa-Jackson will sing the title role, with Adam Diegel in the role of Don José.

Medea will be sung in Italian, and nine performances will run from July 8 through August 16. Directed by Michael Barker-Caven and conducted by Daniele Rustioni, this opera by Cherubini is a rarely performed version of Euripides's famous tragedy. Betrayal and revenge are at the core of many great dramas, but the story of Medea - with her shocking response to her husband's infidelity - tops them all. Alexandra Deshorties sings the title role, with Jason Collins as Jason and David Pittsinger as King Creon.
