COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. - The Glimmerglass Festival and the Friends of the Village Library of Cooperstown will present "What's Up at the Opera?," on Sunday, January 23, at 3 p.m. in the Cooperstown Village Library. "What's Up at the Opera?," presented by Glimmerglass Artistic & General Director Francesca Zambello, will feature an overview of The Glimmerglass Festival's 2011 season through storytelling and visuals. The program is free and open to the public and is structured for individuals of all ages.

Zambello was appointed Artistic & General Director of The Glimmerglass Festival in September 2010. She is currently the Artistic Advisor of San Francisco Opera, where she is directing a new production of Wagner's Ring cycle. An internationally recognized director of opera and theater, Zambello's work has been seen at the Metropolitan Opera, Teatro alla Scala, the Bolshoi, Covent Garden, the Munich Staatsoper, Paris Opera, New York City Opera, Washington National Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago and English National Opera. She has staged plays and musicals on Broadway, at the Royal National Theatre, BAM, the Guthrie Theater, Vienna's Raimund Theater, the Bregenz Festival, Sydney Festival, Disneyland, Berlin's Theater des Westens and at the Kennedy Center.

The Friends of the Village Library works to the benefit of the library and the community it serves and offers year-round programs for children and adults.

The 2011 Glimmerglass Festival will open with new productions of Bizet's Carmen and Cherubini's Medea. Additionally, a double bill of two new operas highlighting American artists will feature the world-premiere production of A Blizzard in Marblehead Neck, a Glimmerglass-commissioned work by the award-winning team of composer Jeanine Tesori and playwright Tony Kushner, and the professional premiere of John Musto and Mark Campbell's acclaimed Later the Same Evening.  The four operas will be joined by Irving Berlin's Annie Get Your Gun, starring world-renowned soprano Deborah Voigt. The main stage productions will be supplemented by special performances, concerts, lectures and symposiums throughout the season. The season runs July 2 through Auguest 23.
