Curious Facts
• The Otsego Golf Club, est. 1894, is one of the nations' oldest. Located at the northern end of Otsego Lake, it was the scene of the adventures of the Deer Slayer. • Otsego County was originally settled by Judge William Cooper, the first English land baron to sell his land, rather than “rent” to tenant farmers. Earth Festival Set for Saturday, April 9January 4, 2011 - Milford Hosts Earth Festival Near Cooperstown, NY MILFORD, NY - Earth Festival 2011 will be held on Saturday, April 9 at Milford Central School. This year's event will include the traditional information and vendor fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the gymnasium, after which the Milford Central School Education Foundation will end Earth Festival with a special "recycled fashion" show (ticket purchase required). Earth Festival will also mark the unveiling of the BigFoot Baler, used in agricultural plastics recycling, and the launch of a countywide farmers' market cookbook. In keeping with the earth-friendly theme, a number of items will be collected for recycling. Event organizers invite attendees to drop off Styrofoam (white only), bubble wrap, athletic shoes, empty inkjet cartridges, old cell phones, unwanted videotapes and CDs, and used nylon monofilament fishing line at no charge. Edison Computers will be on hand for an electronics collection (some fees will apply), and a free shredding service will be provided by ConfiData, a division of Empire Recycling. Now in its sixth year, Earth Festival is an environmentally-focused, interactive event featuring exhibits, activities, vendors and entertainment, all with a fun, earth-friendly twist. Financial contributions are most welcome, and an open invitation to earth-friendly exhibitors, food and retail vendors is extended. Earth Festival 2011 is sponsored by Wildlife Learning Company and Otsego County Conservation Association. For more information about Earth Festival, visit admin. ![]() |
