Cooperstown Organization to Present Seventh Annual Cabin Fever Film Series


December 14, 2010 - Cabin Fever Film Series in Cooperstown January and February

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. - Fenimore Art Museum, The Glimmerglass Festival and the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will present the seventh annual Cabin Fever Film Series on Fridays in January and February at 7 p.m. This season's series, "Cabin Fever Saves the Day," will feature films that include heroes, such as The Incredibles, The Pink Panther and Annie Oakley.

The film screenings are free and open to the public and run January 7 through February 25 at either the Fenimore Art Museum Auditorium or the National Baseball Hall of Fame Grandstand Theater. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and patrons should use the main entrances at both locations. Refreshments will be available for purchase, with proceeds benefiting area organizations.

For the fourth year, Augur's Books is sponsoring a book raffle at each film: winners will receive a copy of a book related to the film being presented. Augur's Books is located at the corner of Pioneer and Main streets in Cooperstown.

Please note film ratings vary. Captions are available for most films for the hearing impaired; audience members may request captions upon admission. January 7: Carmen, a Francesca Zambello production (NR, 2007)

With Anna Caterina Antonacci and Jonas Kaufmann bringing rare intensity to the drama of Carmen and Done José, this new Royal Opera production directed by Glimmerglass Festival Artistic & General Director Francesca Zambello is a darkly passionate reading of one of the world's favorite operas. Under the baton of Music Director Antonio Pappano, Bizet's irresistible score drives the tragedy forward - powering a landmark staging of a musical masterpiece.

January 14: Batteries Not Included (PG for some violence and language, 1987)

Running time: 105 minutes

The last five tenants of 817 East 8th Street need a miracle to prevent a real estate developer from tearing down their tenement and destroying everything they own. Late one night, tiny spaceships mysteriously glide through an open window to help their beleaguered friends.

 

 

January 21: The Incredibles (PG for violence, 2004)

From the wizards at Pixar comes this hilarious adventure of Bob Parr, formerly known as Mr. Incredible, who, along with his family had to be put into the witness protection program. Leaving his life of crime fighting behind, Bob is now a clock-punching insurance adjuster trying to make a life in the 'burbs.  When a mysterious communication summons him to a remote island, the whole family must jump back into action for one last mission.

 

January 28: The Pink Panther (NR, 1964)

Running time: 115 minutes

The inveterate bungler, Inspector Jacques Clouseau (Peter Sellers) of the Paris police, is the sort of man whose wife is not only two-timing him, but is doing so with the very masterful jewel thief he's been assigned to catch. The inimitable David Niven plays the suave and ultra-sophisticated cat burglar.

 

February 4: Annie Oakley (NR, 1935)

Running time: 91 minutes

Location: Fenimore Art Museum Auditorium

A highly fictionalized film based on the life of the famous markswoman Annie Oakley, played by Barbara Stanwyck, and the competitor she fell in love with, played by Preston Foster.  Follow Annie as she transitions from just a good shot to a fancy shootin' show(wo)man and through the winding road to love.

February 11: Lilo & Stitch (PG for mild action, 2002)

Running time: 85 minutes

Location: National Baseball Hall of Fame, Grandstand Theater

 

A Disney-animated feature set in Hawaii that follows 5-year-old Lilo, a peculiar little girl who loves animals. She encounters Stitch, a notorious alien who has escaped from intergalactic police. Stitch is posing as a dog (albeit a six-legged one) and Lilo adopts him. Stitch figures he can pose as a normal house-pet and the alien police will not be able to find him.

 

February 18: Glory (R for language and adult content, 1989)

Running time: 122 minutes

Location: Fenimore Art Museum Auditorium

A dramatic account of the American Civil War's first all-black regiment, led by the idealistic and privileged northern white commander Colonel Robert Gould Shaw (Matthew Broderick), who is fighting not only the enemy, but also convention and prejudice. This stunning drama is based on Shaw's Civil War letters.

February 25: Miracle (PG for language and some rough sports action, 2004)

Running time: 130 minutes

Location: National Baseball Hall of Fame, Grandstand Theater

 

Walt Disney Pictures brings to the screen the amazing story of the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team, which stunned the heavily favored Soviet squad in the semifinals to advance to the championship game, inspiring the famous questions: "Do you believe in miracles?" Kurt Russell stars as Herb Brooks, the team's coach.
