Cooperstown Lakefront Concert Series ContinuesAugust 2, 2010 - A wide variety of music every Tuesday evening in July and August COOPERSTOWN, NY - Be sure to circle Tuesday nights on your calendar as scenic Lakefront Park will once again be the host venue for nine great musical performances. Area bands and soloists will perform a wide genre of music, in the sixth annual Cooperstown Lakefront Concert Series. The family-oriented concerts, sponsored by the Village of Cooperstown Parks Board, are showcased on the historic bandstand each Tuesday night in July and August at 7 p.m. Bring a lawn chair, blanket and your dancing shoes in an activity the entire family will enjoy on a Cooperstown Summer evening. There is no charge. The Lakefront Concert '10 Series continues August 10 with the Stoddard Hollow Band returns to the Bandstand. This group is based in the upper Catskills and is known for its mix of Appalachian old-time tunes, traditional and original music, and some tunes you wouldn't expect from a old time string band. The band consists of Marvin Zachow on fiddle and vocals, Ed McGee on claw hammer banjos, Frank Frazzitta on guitar and vocals, and Steve Fleckenstein on bass. The remaining schedule of events includes: August 10: Stoddard Hollow String Band - new this season based in the upper Catskills and known for its mix of Appalachian old-time tunes, traditional and original music, and some tunes you wouldn't expect from an old string band August 17: Sean Fleming Band - new this season solo act of Celtic folk songs and music from Ireland and more August 24: Fritz Henry original songs from his two CDs, "The Survivor" and "Faces and Places," along with his interpretations of familiar favorites from Folk, to Country, to Rock and Roll August 31: Big Band Easy Money - new this season jazz arrangements from the 1920's to today this large group of musicians are happy to keep the audience dancing all night For more information about the The Lakefront Concert series contact Rich McCaffery at 547-5256 or richcooperstown or Teri Barown, Clerk, Village of Cooperstown at 547-2411. Special acknowledgement to the National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum for their support. The Village of Cooperstown purchased Lakefront Park in 1936 and expanded it by an additional purchase in 1961. The 2.6 acre park is a popular venue for relaxation, reading, boat-docking and concerts. The main entrance is on Lake Street and marked by natural stone posts, with stone steps descending to the park and lake.
