Celebrate the Newest Baseball Hall of Fame Electees July in Cooperstown


February 3, 2010 - Baseball's Greatest Weekend at Cooperstown Hall of Fame

COOPERSTOWN, NY - Baseball's greatest weekend will celebrate the careers of three new Hall of Fame inductees while introducing a new lineup of family-friendly activities, as Hall of Fame Weekend 2010 will take place July 23-26 in Cooperstown, N.Y.

Eight-time All-Star outfielder Andre Dawson, long-time umpire Doug Harvey and six-time division-winning manager Whitey Herzog will join the roster of baseball's all-time greats on Sunday, July 25, as they are inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. The addition of Dawson, Harvey and Herzog brings to 292 the number of men and women elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

The Induction Ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, July 25 at the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown. Admission is free and open to the public. The Ceremony, which will also be televised on the MLB Network, lasts approximately three hours and will feature the induction speeches of Dawson, Harvey and Herzog. Also during the Ceremony, two awards will be presented. Bill Madden of the New York Daily News will receive the 2010 J.G. Taylor Spink Award for meritorious contributions to baseball writing. Jon Miller, voice of the San Francisco Giants and ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball, will receive the 2010 Ford C. Frick Award for excellence in baseball broadcasting.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will maintain special hours of operation during Hall of Fame Weekend 2010, from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday, July 23, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, and from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Sunday, July 25.

The best way to experience Hall of Fame Weekend 2010 is to become a Museum member, which provides a host of benefits, including free admission to the Museum, special hours to access the Museum starting at 7 a.m. each day during Hall of Fame Weekend, opportunities to attend special programs, listed below, and free shipping and 10 percent off retail purchases from the Museum store on the Web. Induction Weekend 2010 will feature several additional family-friendly events, including:

     PLAY Ball with Ozzie Smith,  1 p.m., Friday, July 23, Doubleday Field

The "Wizard" and his special Hall of Fame guests will provide two hours of non-stop interaction in this special event benefiting the Museum's educational programs. Ticket required.

      Connecting Generations 11 a.m., Saturday, July 24, Clark Sports Center

The fan-favorite trivia contest Connecting Generations is moving to a new time this year, and the event will provide families in the audience the chance to face off against members of the Hall of Fame family. Participating Hall of Famers will be announced soon. Ticket required.

     NY-Penn League Game 1 p.m., Saturday, July 24, Doubleday Field

The Tri-City ValleyCats take on the Connecticut Tigers. Free Admission, no ticket required.

      Hall of Fame Parade of Legends 6 p.m., Saturday, July 24, Main Street in Cooperstown

Hall of Fame members will participate in this brand new parade, which will originate on upper Main Street and conclude at the front steps of the Museum for a Red Carpet Arrival Ceremony. Fans can watch their favorite Hall of Famers throughout the entire course of the Main Street parade route. Free of charge, no ticket required.

      Hall of Fame Plaque Installation approx. 7 p.m., Sunday, July 25, Hall of Fame

Watch as the plaques depicting the newest Hall of Famers are installed in the Hall of Fame's Plaque Gallery. Admission to the Museum required.

       Hall of Fame Roundtable with New Inductees 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 26, Clark Sports Center

The newest Hall of Famers will share memories from the weekend and their baseball careers during a live discussion. Members-only event. Ticket required.

Open seven days a week the year round, with the exception of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day, the Hall of Fame is open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. until Memorial Day Weekend. Summer hours extend until Labor Day, from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. daily. Ticket prices are $16.50 for adults (13 and over), $11 for seniors (65 and over) and for those holding current memberships in the VFW, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion and AMVets organizations, and $6 for juniors (ages 7-12). Members are always admitted free of charge and there is no charge for children six years of age or younger, active and retired card-carrying military personnel.
