The Hudson River School: Nature and the American Vision

Saturday, June 29, 2013 to Sunday, September 29, 2013
All Day Event

Fenimore Art Museum Presents:  This major exhibition highlights 19th century Hudson River School artists and explores landscape painting as a powerful narrative device that embodied ideas about nature and culture in a rapidly changing country.  Works by Albert Bierstadt, Thomas Cole, Frederic Church, and others illuminate this self-consciously American landscape vision.

Iconic works are featured, including Thomas Cole's five-part series, The Course of Empire, and other masterworks by Cole, John F. Kensett, Albert Bierstadt, Jasper F. Cropsey, and Asher B. Durand.  This exhibition has been organized by the New York Historical Society.
