Cooperstown Winter Carnivale 2012

  • The Cooperstown Winter Carnival, a long-time traditional winter festival, began in 1967 with the interntion of offering a variety of activities for residents and tourists to Cooperstown during the early winter month of February. The CWC brings people out into the cold and gives them a reason to celebrate with their friends, neighbors, and visitors. Each year the CWC creates new and exciting events, while bringing the same traditions back that people have come to expect.

    Honing a synthesis of folk and blues for more than 40 years and having released thirteen records, Chris Smither is truly an American original. A profound songwriter, Chris continues to draw deeply from the blues, American folk music, modern poets and humanist philosophers. A blistering guitarist, Chris melds the styles of his two major influences, Lightnin’ Hopkins and Mississippi John Hurt, into his own signature guitar sound.

    In 2010, Glier shared stages with such diverse artists as James Taylor, Mark Knopfler, The Verve Pipe, and Edwin McCain. He again toured with McCain in 2011, as well as opening spots for Ani DiFranco across the nation. This is Glier’s third appearance at the Oneonta Theatre. He has appeared as a mainstage artist at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival (NY) and the Kerrville Folk Festival (TX). USA Today recently compared Seth to Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel and recommended his track “Lauralee” on their “Listen Up Playlist” (Feb 2011).
