Copes Corners Park Spring Fest

The Town of Butternuts welcomes everyone to the Third Annual Copes Corners Park Spring Fling to be held from 9:00 a.m. until dark on Saturday, May 6th. There will be food vendors, a chinese auction under the big tent, product and craft vendors, musical entertainment all day long, and special rates on tent/rv camping for both Friday and Saturday.

  • 9:00 a.m. until noon – Fishing Derby sponsored by Trout Unlimited – brown trout will be released that morning into the Butternut Creek and boys and girls ages three to fifteen will compete to catch them – three age groups (3-5 with adult help, 6-10, and 11-15) – kids can bring their own rod & reel or use one provided by Trout Unlimited volunteers – many prizes will be awarded
  • 10:00 a.m. – yoga activity – from beginners to experts, all are welcome to participate – bring a mat if you have one
  • 11:00 a.m. – Qigong – a Chinese moving meditation activity to cultivate and balance "life energy"
  • noon – 3:00 p.m. – Ross Park zoo-mobile will visit the park bringing zoo animals as well as representatives from the zoo to talk about the animals and perhaps have a meet and greet with the public
  • 2:00 p.m. – Boat Float contest – in this first year for this event, competitors can either bring their own boat or build one on site – boats will be released into the Butternut Creek and prizes will be awarded to the boats which arrive at the finish line the fastest – homemade boats only, please, no longer than 18″ – no remote control allowed – materials to build your own boat will be available on site the day of the event – two classes: float boats; and an open class which encourages creativity and use of a power source to propel the boat
  • 1:30 p.m. through 3:00 p.m. – Water-on-the-fire speed drill competition – watch your local fire departments compete for a trophy to see who can perform this drill the quickest (rules below)
  • 3:00 p.m. – Zumba with Zoe – this was a very successful event at last year's Spring Fest – no experience necessary – come and participate in Zumba exercise with Zoe along the beautiful banks of the Butternut Creek
  • 4:00 p.m. – the Gilbertsville-Mount Upton High School Jazz Band will play a selection of toe-tapping jazz at pavilion #3 in the park
  • 5:00 p.m. – ice cream social provided by the Gilbertsville Fire Department Auxiliary – goodwill donation if you would like to do so
  • 6:00 p.m. – Friends of the Park will announce winners of the Chinese Auction
  • 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. – it has come to be a tradition at park events to close with a bonfire along the Butternut Creek – bring a chair and a beverage and while away the evening with friends while listening to live music by Gary Jennings
