Forget the peanuts and Cracker Jack, it's the thriving craft beverage and dining scene that will make you want to come back!
Cooperstown and Otsego County was once a capital of U.S. hops production, producing three million pounds of hops annually. Today, three local breweries—as well as wineries, cider mills, and a distillery—fuel the region's rich beverage scene.
Among the most well-known of these is Brewery Ommegang. When it was built on a 136-acre farm, just minutes from downtown Cooperstown in 1997, Ommegang became the first new farmstead brewery in the U.S. in more than 100 years. Today, it specializes in Belgian-style ales – and offers free tours, tasting flights, authentic Flemish cuisine, and a summer concert series.
The best way to get a taste of the region, however, is along the Cooperstown Beverage Trail. Running 37 miles through Otsego County and central New York, the trail offers tastings at several breweries, wineries, a cidery, and a distillery.
